New Community News Email Alerts

September 26th, 2007 Posted in Community | No Comments »

With only a few mouse clicks, Blaine residents can register to receive email alerts of City of Blaine web updates. The service, known as GovDelivery, is a subscription management system that allows residents to choose the email updates they want. Currently, the service allows subscriptions to 181 different topics in 10 categories.

Residents are allowed a full range of preferences, from email frequency – immediate, daily, weekly or monthly – to various subscription capabilities, allowing them to add or remove subscriptions at any time. It is also important to note that residents will only receive emails about updates they have requested.

The categories, each with numerous subcategories within, are: News Events and Information; City Council; Commissions and Committees; Parks and Recreation (BlaineParks.com); Public Services; Safety Services; Community Development; Administration; Businesses (BlaineBiz.com); and Residents and Visitors Information.

Residents seeking information about adult softball, for instance, can register for all updates from the Parks and Recreation Department, updates specifically about adult sports or only updates about adult softball.

Most important, however, is the emergency alerts option. Subscribers can register to receive immediate emergency alerts via email. As a special option for emergency alerts, City Hall closures or public notices/news releases, alerts can also be sent directly to any wireless communications device.

Residents are encouraged to peruse the online list and register for various email alert categories by clicking on any of the “Email Updates” buttons on the City of Blaine’s website.
